What materials can be used for vacuum forming?

All models include a built-in database for 17 plastic materials plus 5 custom presets. Common vacuum forming materials include PET, HIPS, ABS, PC, LDPE, and TPU. Actual forming results depend on sheet thickness, heating temperature, mold design, and vacuum conditions, so the material should be selected according to the intended application.

MYYARD offers four vacuum forming sheet materials: PET, HIPS, TPU, and LDPE.

Applications: Chocolate molds, blister packaging, toy shells, trays, food packaging, low-temperature food containers, decorative light covers, and 3D board game components

Applications: Object replication, soap molds, masks, cosplay props, model accessories, decorative light covers, and creative products

If you only need a compact A4 forming size for applications such as mold replication or chocolate molds, FORMART S is a practical choice. If you need multiple plastic sheet sizes, product prototyping, and low-volume production, choose FORMART 2 / SE. If you need a larger forming area, thicker sheets, or light-industrial applications, FORMOVA is designed for those requirements.

After vacuum forming, the trimming method can be selected based on the plastic material, sheet thickness, and production volume.

Common methods include:

  • Scissors / Utility Knife: Suitable for thin sheets, DIY projects, and small prototype runs.
  • Electric Plastic Cutter: Faster trimming for vacuum-formed PET, HIPS, and similar materials, ideal for finishing and low-volume production.
  • CNC Cutting: Suitable for formed parts that require higher dimensional accuracy or complex contours.
  • Die Cutting: Ideal for blister packs or trays with fixed dimensions in medium- to high-volume production.

For low-volume production, a dedicated trimming tool or die is usually unnecessary. Once production volume increases and dimensions are standardized, CNC cutting or die cutting becomes more efficient.

FORMOCUT electric plastic cutter for trimming vacuum formed parts, blister packaging, and plastic sheets

🔍 Developed in collaboration with a long-established scissors manufacturer, MYYARD’s new FORMOCUT electric plastic cutter makes trimming vacuum-formed parts easier and more controllable.

It features a 390T high-torque motor and tungsten carbide blades designed specifically for vacuum-formed plastic. It supports most plastic sheets up to 1.0 mm thick, with certain materials up to 1.5 mm.

The replaceable cutting head simplifies maintenance and consumable replacement, while the safety-focused design helps reduce the risk of accidental injury during trimming.

All three models can be used to make blister packaging.

  • FORMART S is suitable for small clear blister packs and DIY packaging.
  • FORMART 2 / SE is ideal for multi-size packaging prototypes and low-volume branded packaging.
  • FORMOVA is suitable for larger blister packs, trays, and low-volume production.

Schools, makerspaces, and studios can choose a model based on available space and required forming size.

  • For smaller projects and limited workspace, choose FORMART S.
  • For more flexible sheet sizes and higher usage frequency, choose FORMART 2 / SE.
  • For courses or projects that require larger parts, thicker sheets, or production-style process testing, FORMOVA is the more suitable option.
